Crazy camping

Camping turned out differently than I thought it would.  We planned to go to my Grandparents place near Pelly Saskatchewan and enjoy an uneventful week of fun in the sun with relatives then have a party to celebrate my grandparents 80th and 85th birthdays.  Well, we got to North Battleford and picked up my nephew and had lunch.  By the time we got on the road again we were a bit behind time.   We drove and drove and drove then stopped for deisl and drove and drove and drove some more.  At the turn off Brian had planned to take the GPS told him to go a different way and for some weird reason he listened to it(He disagrees with it most of the time and just has it on so he can argue with someone).  When we got to the turn off the GPS said to take it was under construction and we didn't want to take it with the trailer so we kept going.  Ended up going out of our way to get there and we took a short cut to get back on tract that required us to move the baracades off the road and drive across a bridge that had 3/4 of a foot of water flowing over it (guess we should have taken the road that was under construction).  Because we were travelling in the evening through a bunch of dinky little towns we were having trouble finding a place to fuel up, lucky for us a guy was using a card lock and let us give him cash to fill up a bit (I knew that $20 I keep in my camara case would come in handy sometime).  Note to self replace that $20 for next time.   Mmmm what else haappened on our eventful trip?  A rock from one of the gravel road punctured the water tank in our trailer and we had no water left by the time we got to grandma and grandpas except for the water that was comming in the trailer windows cause of the extreem amount of rain that was comming down.  The last half hour of our trip was quite a show, thunder and lightning in the pitch black cause it was late and all the power was out.  Because we couldn't see we parked the truck in a bit of a low spot and were stuck by morning.  The next morning when the wind and rain and everything else had gone away grandpa got out the little tractor to pull us out. Diddn't work.  So grandpa got out the big tractor and snapped a chain trying to pull us out.  So ended up unhooking the trailer pulling the truck out with the big tractor the hooking the trailer to the big tractor and pulling that out then hooking the truck back up to park.
Now that the work was done our relaxing holiday was supposed to start right?  Well it did kinda, we went quading and playing in the mud a bit but not to much cause no one had water except rain water till the power came back on 2 1/2 days later.  We hooked our generator up to grandma and grandpas fridge and freezer so the food wouldn't go bad but it wouldn't run their water pump.
The mosquitos were absolutly rediculous!!  never seen then so bad in my life.  Had to wear long sleeves and pants till it was super hot and then stay in the heat or you would be eaten alive even with bug spray.  And ticks lol  my boys had a contest who could get the most ticks.  Brian (hubby) won with 5 Anthany 2nd with 3(he found one in his belly button the second night we were there).  Atley only had one BUT great grandma had to detach if from his skin with peroxide.  Alex and I didn't have any YAY!
Anthany and i flew a kite so high in the air that you could barely see it anymore.  Isn't it funny how kids love to let out the string but they never want to roll it back in again.  We put baking soda on cookie sheets and used colored vinigar and paint brushes to make fizzy colors.  After they were done we took all of our supplies and rinced them off in the puddle at the end of the lane.  That easily took way longer than it should have cause everything turned into boats.
On the last day we were there the boys found a snake and took turns touching it.  Atley picked it up by the tail and was swinging it and throwing it.
Ya know it was a crazy week but even though almost eveything seemed to go wrong we all had fun and no one came home with ticks.
Here's hoping our next camping trip goes a bit more smoothly.
HAPPY CAMPING EVERYONE!
